2022 Kids Summer Art Camps

Yay! Kid’s Summer Art Camps are On!

This summer we have three week-long art studio camps available for kids ages 8 – 12.

Maureen gives lots of personal attention to your kids because we only have four students per studio camp. She is flexible, a great listener, and focuses on helping kids express their intrinsic creativity and find their own voices rather than “technique.” However, she is also responsive to students who wish to gain skills such as drawing from observation; color and composition skills, and mark-making. Read on to find out more about the Kids Summer Art Camps, each of which will be different.

What will my kids learn during the 2022 Summer Studios?

To answer your question, we stay flexible on the exact projects for art camps, while centering each week on a particular type of art-making.  When Maureen meets and has a conversation with each child at the gallery before registering, she finds out what they are most interested in, and tries to accommodate every kiddo to learn at least one thing they have their heart set on.

Each Weekly Camp Has a Central Different Mostly-Theme:

June 13 – 17:  June Studio Camp will focus on

  • Color Studies
  • Nature Studies: drawing with pencil, pen, colored pencils, pastels
  • Plein Air (Outdoor)Painting: using gouache, watercolor, acrylics and glazes
  • Different ways of making collage
  • Photo Walks tossed into the mix (time permitting)

We’ll be inside the classroom and outside in nature, as weather permits.

Young VoicesJuly 11 – 15:  July Studio Camp will focus on printmaking:

  • Chine colle´with monotypes
  • Multi-block linocut prints
  • Self-portraits with camera, paint and glue (also printmaking)
  • Weird and wonderful artist-books using the outcomes of our printmaking adventures (time permitting)

We will spend a little time outside, but more inside the classroom and printmaking studio.

August 8 – 12:  August Studio Camp will focus on constructing stuff and storytelling using art:

  • Basic and advanced drawing and sketching skills
  • Articulated characters and creatures
  • Wood sculptures such as boats, planes and treehouses
  • Mandalas (using paint, collage and found objects, and drawn with chalk on the sidewalks.)

Weather permitting, we’ll spend a little time making art outdoors every day.

How Can I Register My Child?

(UPDATE: Camps are now FULL – sign up for info about our Fall Classes for Kids)

Registration for all three summer art studio camps is now open. Registration closes May 28th. This gives us enough time to obtain the supplies and tools so each child will have their own.

Register in-person at 1+1=1 Gallery. Maureen will have a conversation with your child before you sign them up, to make sure they really really really want to focus and participate. At that time, you may pay with cash, check or a card at the gallery. We can only issue a refund if you have a medical emergency reason or you cancel your child’s participation before May 15 (this gives another child a chance to signup before registration closes.)

Note: each studio camp is one entire week. Each day’s activities builds on the previous days.  Please make sure your child can come all five days before registering them. Thank you for your understanding.

Our entire educational program is subject to change based on the number of Covid19 cases in our county. If we must cancel a class, or move to online Art Zooms, we will be glad to refund your registration fee, or give you credit for future classes at 1+1=1.

Know a kid who would like to attend? Give them a gift card!
