March First Friday All About Earthy Irish culture

FirstFridayIrishMusic

Please join us at 1+1=1 Gallery for an evening of Irish food and music from the 18th century by Queen City Consort

Date Night Idea

Drop in between 5:30 and 7pm and stay for a few minutes or as long as you’d like to listen to this fine group and enjoy some great Irish-inspired food and drink! It’s a great idea for date night — many downtown businesses are open, including restaurants, galleries and boutiques, for your fun and convenience. First Fridays have been going on in downtown Helena for over a year and are gaining popularity and momentum. You can even paint your own painting at Corks n Canvas at the Holter Museum of Art after you come by the shops on the 400 block.

Queen City Consort

Members  of this local group are Suzy Holt, soprano recorder; Lee Harrison, alto recorder; Vic Reiman, tenor recorder and Nann Parrett, cello. They will play a program of short pieces by Turlough O’Carolan, an Irish composer for harp prolific in the early 1700’s. Described as the “Last of the Irish bards”, he blended traditional Irish folk music with influence from the evolving European baroque music, which made it especially interesting to arrange for the recorder, an instrument reaching it’s greatest popularity at the time. With our very own local cello/recorder quartet, Queen City Consort, O’Carolan’s music promises to be absolutely delightful. I know I’m excited to hear it!

Earthy Food and Drink

We’ll be serving homemade Irish Soda Bread with fresh butter, Irish cheeses, homemade dips with Kettle-style chips, Blackfoot beer and green limeade. What could be better? — all this plus the wonderful art exhibit that is currently on display.

New Mobile App: HelenaLocal

HelenaMtLocalAppWhen you come into the gallery, we’ll show you how to use the brand new mobile app that’s creating a buzz all over Helena. Download HelenaLocal app on your smart phone during our First Friday festivities and enter a drawing for an unframed archival art print by Maureen Shaughnessy or a porcelain wine cup by Samantha Briegel (your choice.) We’ll do the drawing at the end of the evening and call you if you win!
