Hi, my name is Ema Terry and I would like to welcome you all to the Young Voices 2020 exhibit.

I have taken art classes at 1+1=1 Gallery for about 4 years and I have had so many amazing experiences making art with my classmates. I love taking art classes because they’re so fun and I use them as an outlet to express myself and take a break from the real world.

Art helps me with my feelings because whenever I am having any sort of emotion, I can easily describe what I am feeling in an art piece. For example, I did my piece, “Dots,”  while I was in a very happy, bubbly mood and you can tell by all the bright colors and fun design aspects throughout the piece.

Most of my ideas come from my imagination; however, I also like to get inspiration from others in my art class. One of my favorite memories from art classes over the summer was  working with my friends to make a collaborative wood sculpture. When the piece was finished, Justin pointed out that it kind of looked like a chicken, and thats why we titled it “Fresh Eggs: A Dollar a Dozen”

I also really enjoyed making big acrylic paintings over the summer. My painting “Tropical Wave” takes place on a beach. The beach is on a deserted island where there is no trace of humanity. The waves represent the only movement and sound on the beach. It is a place of peace and tranquility, where no disturbances are allowed.

My art style has changed a lot over the years, but there has always been a common theme amongst the changes. I have always been drawn to using many different colors. I like to use color in all of my pieces but I don’t necessarily have a favorite color scheme that I am drawn to. I tend to switch it up with every new piece I make.

To wrap up, I am proud to say that we are donating half of the proceeds from this show to The Lewis and Clark Humane Society and the Helena Food Share Kid Packs program. I would like to give a big thank you to Tim and Maureen for making this all possible and to everyone supporting the 2020 Young Voices artists.
