Small Window Exhibit Features Paul Guillemette and Michele Landsaat

Art Jewelry and Etchings Window Exhibit

In the small street-facing gallery window this month is a two-person show by Paul Guillemette and Michele Landsaat.

To make his one-of-a-kind jewelry, Paul Guillemette uses found objects, repurposed pieces of wood and natural objects he finds near his Los Angeles studio. His colorful jewelry is popular in the big cities, and we happen to know it’s very popular in Helena Montana! Necklaces, earrings, bracelets rings and cuffs … there is bound to be the perfect piece of Guillemette body-decor whether you are a diva who wants to command attention, or more subdued and just like to decorate your ears. Elegant, funky, striking, badass, cute, classy … there is something for every personality! Always, Paul’s jewelry is unusual! Come in to try on, or just go for it online! You may not know that Guillemette is also a sculptor: we show his ceramic sculptures too! We managed to sneak one of his most fascinating sculptures into the small window exhibit. You have to see it to really appreciate the depth of this sculptural story. More of Paul’s art jewelry and available ceramic sculptures in the mashup below.

Michele Landsaat has shown in several exhibits at 1+1=1 and we hope know you will be as charmed as we are with her fragile-seeming, delicate etchings illustrating profound stories. Her prints are each pulled from an etching press by hand, and made in very limited editions. Michele comes from a background of bookmaking and writing. The stories she creates speak to an underlying and universal vulnerability, yet they are simultaneously whimsical in nature. Every component of Michele’s books and images is significant, such that the process, materials and design are metaphors for the actual content. The alchemical and slow process of creating illustrations using the technique of etching mirrors her approach to storytelling. Check out some of Michele Landsaat’s works below, and see them in person up close at the gallery this month.

How can I purchase Paul Guillemette’s jewelry, Michele Landsaat’s etchings?

First, we want to make sure you know we have more of Michele’s original one-of-a-kind etchings – unframed – in our back room. And we always stock Paul Guillemette’s fabulous FUN jewelry at the gallery. Just ask: either Lana or Maureen will show you to our basement where we store hundreds of wonderful works of art. It’s always fun to discover artworks in our storage!

Stop by 1+1=1 Gallery at 434 North Last Chance Gulch, to purchase the artwork in person whenever we are open, or buy directly from our Online Gallery Store. We deliver (in Helena,) ship (almost anywhere in the world) or will hold your purchases for pick up in the gallery. If you want to try on the jewelry, come in during our gallery hours.

What is a Featured Window Artist?

We have rotating special solo exhibits in our large, front window.  It’s our gift to the folks who frequent downtown Helena. The featured window artists’ exhibits are street-facing, lighted and visible 24/7. Anyone can enjoy the artwork anytime of day or night. Every month or so, we’ll have a different artist showing their work in the large window and one or two artists in the smaller window. This is in addition to the regular exhibits we’ve always had inside the gallery on our main floor. Our Featured Window Artist displays are one way we have adapted to the pandemic. We hope many local Helenans will enjoy these tiny exhibits!

If you see something in any Featured Window Artist exhibit that you’d like to take home with you, just go to our Online Gallery Store to purchase. Or call 406-431-9931 to reserve the piece and we’ll make it happen for you.
