About Ashley Hanna

Ashley Hanna is a Montana based silversmith and designer. She received her BA in Medical Anthropology and minor in Fine Art with a focus on metal arts and sculpture from the University of Montana. She continued to take metal and jewelry art courses in Portland Oregon at the Oregon College of Arts and Crafts and the Multnomah Arts Center while apprenticing with a local career metalsmith and jewelry artist.

Artist Statement:

Ashley’s jewelry occupies the space between traditional craft and fine art – each piece to be appreciated for its aesthetic and thoughtful content, as well as its purpose for adornment. She endeavors to craft pieces of art through a traditional approach that can communicate on a personal level. Layers of subtle historical and cultural references from a range of traditions are ingrained into every piece. The art that she creates requires the participation of the wearer in order to continue to tell its story. After starting her artisan jewelry business, Faded Traditions, in 2018, her work has been showcased in a number of stores, galleries, and shows throughout Montana.
