Contemporary Wood Opens April 23, 2022

1+1=1 Gallery presents our biennial invitational woodworking exhibit

This year’s show, titled Contemporary Wood, features new work by three of the finest woodworkers in Montana: Tim J. Carney, Boyd Carson and Tom Robinson.

Boyd Carson and Tom Robinson are wood turners. Carson makes hollow form vessels as well as elegant sculptural wood pieces. Robinson also turns hollow form vessels and gorgeous finely crafted bowls. Carney is a furniture maker – his studio furniture is one of a kind and always impeccably designed to be comfortable as well as beautiful.

Opening Reception Saturday April 23

At our Open House – April 23 from 10 to 4 – we hosted a casual conversation-question-answer time with the artists in the early afternoon. Tom, Boyd and Tim brought some works in progress, some of their tools and raw materials to give you an idea of what goes into a turned vessel or piece of fine furniture. Visitors enjoedy delicious appetizers, light desserts and beverages while browsing the woodworking show, meeting the artists and finding woodworking treasures to take home!

There are Still Some Gorgeous Wood Pieces Available

Shop available works through our CONTEMPORARY WOOD Online Catalog. Scroll down to the catalog and sort by “Available” to see what we have at the gallery. We are happy to ship anywhere in the US, and offer free delivery in the city of Helena. Check out some views of our opening reception below.

Woodworking Artist Profiles

Amanda Determan, our Digital Media Manager, created some fabulous short video artist profiles for us. She combined Maureen’s video interviews of the artists with footage from in-person studio visits and stills of their artwork. The profiles are fascinating and educational. Check them out on each artist’s page here.
