AUGUST 27 – SEPTEMBER 24, 2022

Paperwork

From its earliest origins in China and subsequent spread to the Middle East, from the first water-powered paper mills of Spain to the first mill built on U.S. soil, paper has long served many purposes. It records our histories and safeguards our secrets. It has documented the expansion of our understanding of the world and displayed our creative exploits over the centuries. In “Paperwork,” nine artists will share their exploration of the potentialities of this humble, familiar medium, with a wide array of work including printmaking, sculpture, and watercolor.

Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday 10am to 6pm. Saturdays, we open at 10am and close at 4pm. During our open house Saturdays, artist talks are always scheduled to begin at 2pm. Light snacks, creative mocktails and other beverages will be served at our Open Houses as well.

Participating artists include four Helena artists: Brad DeFrees, Bonnie Lambert, Carol Montgomery, and Maureen Shaughnessy. Four additional artists from the Seattle area are also exhibiting: Dawn Endean, Michele Landsaat, and Becky Street and Larry Calkins (exhibiting collaboratively as the group “Back40”). Robin Leenhouts of Milwaukee completes the list of invited artists.

Read artist statements and learn more about each of the participating artists by visiting their profile pages below. Each page contains the individual artist’s catalog of work, or browse all art included in the exhibit by scrolling down this page.
