Home, an exhibit of eleven artist's personal sense of place and home
Home is more than a place, it’s an atmosphere. At times, our sense of home is active and on the move, found only in our willingness to pursue the sweet breeze or sudden budburst. These moments of home, those we sometimes seek beyond our familiar walls and windows, are as true as the air is fresh. These rare encounters, when our precious, private inscape aligns with the ever assertive landscape, remind ing us that, in many ways, we are always home- that we each carry within us a golden ticket, an open invitation, a never worn out welcome to the hospitality of the heart.
In this exhibit, we shine the light on several artists who’ve gathered their own materials and traversed the tender territory of home for us to see. You’re invited to step into each piece as if you are an honored guest. Because you are. So please, by all means, make yourself at home.
Chip Clawson, long time resident of Helena, Montana, is our Featured Window Artist this month!
We are absolutely delighted to give our Helena community an opportunity to see Chip Clawson's most recent work using a 3D printer, in addition to his decorative outdoor ceramic planters. Chip has installed a gorgeous, colorful exhibit in our large front window. The solo exhibit is available to view 24 hours a day - seven days a week, and all of Clawson's artworks are for sale in our online store or in person. Make sure to check out his artwork as you stroll downtown, and come in during gallery hours to see them up close and personal. I you miss the window exhibit, Chip's artwork will continue to be available through our Online Gallery Store until June 30, 2021.
Over the last five or six years, 1+1=1 Gallery has hosted at least one exhibit annually that celebrates the human body - and the brilliant, funky, elegant and creative ways artists make "decorations" for our bodies. This includes art jewelry - the kind you won't find in high security fancy jewelry stores, but wonderful just the same! Check out this selection of artist-made, one-of-a-kind jewelry we have featured throughout the years. See something you like? Ask us about it, and we'll connect you with the perfect piece by that artist or if we cannot, then we'll help you connect with the artist wherever they are.
Young Voices Exhibit and Fundraiser Opens Saturday, March 13. Each student presented an artist talk which was videotaped, and are available to watch here (click to read more)

Been missing Trudy's Foxes?
So have we. Trudy has been showing foxes and other ceramic creatures at 1+1=1 Gallery since we opened 7 years ago. Hundreds of Montana art-lovers have adopted at least one of her exquisite playful creatures. Trudy has honed her spontaneous, intuitive sculpting process over the years, exploring the characteristics and behavior of these curious canine relatives. Her poetic titles give a glimpse into Trudy's mind and provide a philosophical touch to her whimsical pieces.

Get out of your house and enjoy 1+1=1 Gallery again – you know you wanna!
This weekend we opened our best-of-the-collection exhibit. In the past, we've called these shows "Best of 1+1=1" or "Hand Plucked" (an exhibit chosen by community members.) Hand Plucked was so successful we planned to have another Hand Plucked this spring. However, Covid-19 got in the way. It was impossible to gather community members for an evening of "plucking" while non-essential businesses were shut down, so... we changed course.
My inspiration for the theme of this exhibit comes from the many gallery visitors who tell us they particularly notice how our exhibits are hung with a flow that draws them in, helps them understand the artworks, and gives them new insight into a piece they may have seen before. They tell us we are good at "arranging" our exhibits. We are delighted to know that the hard work of organizing many diverse artworks into a cohesive whole is recognized and appreciated.
