We Offer Unique, Creative Classes and Workshops for Adults
During the exceptionally weird year of 2020 we put our adult workshops on the back burner because we wanted to keep our staff and customers safe from Covid-19. We hope 2021 and 2022 are different in that we will be able to meet in person for half day or weeklong workshops in our lovely classroom behind the art gallery!
In the meantime, we are keeping a list of folks who are interested in specific workshops, and they will have the first opportunity (we'll call you) to register when we do figure out dates. If you would like to be on a workshop list, please stop by the gallery and ask Maureen or our gallery staff. And ... subscribe to our Love Notes to be notified by email when the workshop dates are set. Thank you! Workshops planned for the 2021/2022 season include The Art of Self Portraits; 5-day Printmaking Series; Working with Dreams through Art; Intuitive Painting; Crown Making, Junk Journals; Smash Books; Meditative Sketching.

It also includes demonstration of collage and toner-based image transfers specific to encaustic painting. Some painting experience is suggested but not required. Individual creativity and experimentation is encouraged while learning to paint with the molten wax (encaustic.) Darla is an excellent teacher as well as experienced artists. She provides a professional, creative, fun and encouraging learning experience for all.
Workshop supplies include: two 10×10 birch plywood panels (to paint on) encaustic paint and oil sticks, encaustic medium, collage and image transfer materials.
Wear comfortable shoes, as you may be standing much of the day. Dress comfortably in clothes you don’t mind messing up — you could drip wax on your clothes and it’s hard to get out!
No loose clothing (sleeves) or hair as you will be using torches. We will have working aprons and gloves available.
Instructor Darla Myers lives in Bozeman where she has her own studio and teaches workshops. She is represented in Helena by 1+1=1 Gallery. Darla will be one of two featured encaustic artists in an upcoming October 2017 exhibit, titled “Wood and Wax.”
May 1st is Downtown Helena’s First Friday — it’s also May Day — a day to celebrate gardens, flowers, plants, trees and friendship. We invite you to come to our historic downtown that Friday evening to enjoy what we hope is lovely spring weather and all the local businesses that stay open late that evening.
1+1=1 Gallery will be open that night and celebrating May Day with a fun free hands-on art activity for all ages. Come on down and play with us — take home a colorful, flowerful piece of art to remind you of the amazingness of Nature and Springtime!
