Adult 2021 Workshop Series

We Offer Unique, Creative Classes and Workshops for Adults

During the exceptionally weird year of 2020 we put our adult workshops on the back burner because we wanted to keep our staff and customers safe from Covid-19. We hope 2021 and 2022 are different in that we will be able to meet in person for half day or weeklong workshops in our lovely classroom behind the art gallery!

In the meantime, we are keeping a list of folks who are interested in specific workshops, and they will have the first opportunity (we'll call you) to register when we do figure out dates. If you would like to be on a workshop list, please stop by the gallery and ask Maureen or our gallery staff. And ... subscribe to our Love Notes to be notified by email when the workshop dates are set. Thank you! Workshops planned for the 2021/2022 season include The Art of Self Portraits; 5-day Printmaking Series; Working with Dreams through Art; Intuitive Painting; Crown Making, Junk Journals; Smash Books; Meditative Sketching.

2020 Kids Summer Studio Series

What will my kids learn during the 2020 Summer Studios?

Maureen likes to tailor the summer to what the kids want to learn. When we all meet each other on our first day, we will finalize the schedule of topics for the 8 studio sessions w.  We won’t get to everything on the list this summer, but if all goes well, we will have after-school studios for kids in the fall and winter, leading up to next year's 5th Annual Young Voices exhibit.

Paper Crown Making with Bonnie Lambert

Come have fun with us

Spend a day making paper crowns with all kinds of scraps, doodads and thingamajigs—cardboard, paper, ribbons, fabrics, buttons, dried flowers and leaves, seed pods, wire, odds and ends, tape, photos, old books, drawing tools, and lots of other bits and pieces.  We will have plenty of inspiring, delightful and sometimes humorous materials for you to use. If you wish, bring your own materials you may have stashed for creative projects.

We offer a place to gather in a small group with awareness of social distancing and safety

We know there are hundreds of online/video/zoom workshops available. There is just something about the synergy of an in-person group to get our creative juices flowing. We will make sure the classroom is set up for safe social distancing, and that we practice sanitary procedures to keep you and our community healthy. For that reason, the workshop is limited to just 6 participants. Register early to make sure you have a space.

Intro to Encaustic Painting

Encaustic Painting Workshop Super Successful

Darla Myers, talented painter and excellent art educator, led her second workshop at 1+1=1 Gallery on Saturday October 7th. The full day workshop was enthusiastically reviewed by our 6 participants. So much creative exploration and synergy, learning from Darla and from each other.

Most of the workshop participants decided to continue learning by taking one of Darla’s encaustic workshops in her Bozeman studio. We are also planning more encaustic workshops in Helena. Go here to get on the list for notifications about classes and workshops at 1+1=1 Studio. Let us know that’s what you’re interested in!

Check out the experiments in encaustic, our studio setup and of course — happy workshop participants!

Linda McCray and Patty Ceglio

We are hosting an extra special evening for the Downtown Helena Spring Art Walk on May 10th

On the evening of May 10, we are opening three shows: BODY III, our third annual figurative art and art jewelry exhibit, in addition to two solo shows by Linda McCray and Patty Ceglio in Gallery TWO.

This time, Patty has a solo show of her highly-textured cups and mugs. Linda McCray, a longtime Helena resident, artist and designer, brings a new series of her ethereal, spiritually-based paintings to her solo show at TWO.

Changes at 1+1=1 Gallery

In early 2019, we renamed part of our Back Gallery and made it a place to celebrate and shine a spotlight on just two of our represented artists at a time. The space is now called “TWO.” Every artist we represent will have a chance to prominently show a body of their work once a year with a reception or open house. We’re very excited about this change to how we introduce you to our artists and their newest fabulous artwork. In addition to TWO, the other part of our Back Gallery continues to show a sampling of work by many of the artists represented by and associated with 1+1=1. Come in as often as you wish — you are likely to find new artworks every time you stop by.

Artists in TWO, April 13 – 26

Open House Saturday April 20th to celebrate Bonnie Lambert & Erika James

You are invited to join us at 1+1=1 Gallery anytime during the day from 11 to 4, to meet Bonnie Lambert and enjoy her fabulous art jewelry along with a second solo show by Erika James of Portland, Oregon. This month, from April 13 through 26, we are featuring necklaces by Bonnie Lambert and atmospheric encaustic paintings by Erika James.

Helena artist, Bonnie Lambert is known for her unique art-jewelry as well as her constructed large-scale photographs. In TWO this month, Bonnie is displaying her necklaces made from found objects, natural materials such as gourds, oak galls and minerals with semi-precious stones, one-off beads, chocolate and wine foils and vintage silks. Erika James, of Portland, Oregon, makes moody abstract landscapes with encaustic wax. You must see her Columbia Gorge, Pacific beaches and mountain lakes up close and personal to truly get the experience of her encaustic paintings. We are absolutely delighted to have these two on our artist roster and hope you will be too, when you see their new work.

Bonnie Lambert will be at the gallery on April 20, to show some of her materials and converse informally about her inspirations for art jewelry. Get inspired by the way she collects objects that normally would not be used in wearable-art, on her travels and gathering trips. Ask questions, examine her necklaces and find the perfect gift for a stylish friend, spouse or parent!
