Kids Collage with Flub-ups, Oops and Leftovers
July 14th Kids Creativity Sesh
Flub-ups, Oops and Leftovers Make Cool Collages
Sometimes one of my paintings or drawings just isn’t up to snuff… But that’s okay. It’s chill. I don’t worry and — I definitely don’t toss it! That’s like gold in the hands of a collage artist (that would be you, or your kiddo, in this fun class.)
Kids Creativity Sesh Summer Round Up 2015
Alrightee then … we finally have our entire summer schedule for the Kids’ Creativity Classes at 1+1=1 Gallery and Brown Bird Studio (the very back, very cool, bright studio space behind the gallery.)
Classes are always on a Tuesday morning, 9:00 to noon. Tuition is $24/class and includes all materials and a nutritious snack.
So here goes …
Kids Creativity: Make Brushes & Mark-Making Tools
Our first Kids Creativity Class of the summer is June 16th
I’m pretty excited to venture into doing my own classes for kids. I’m starting this year with once a week classes for 9 to 13 year olds. Next year, I will probably branch out to younger and older kids, especially if we have a gallery manager who can take over some of the work. [grin]
Energy movement, expression of form, creation of meaningful, new forms. Invented tools. Unique paint brushes. Drawing with found objects and natural materials. Creative. Expressive. Fun. Outside-the-box!
Kids: Paint How You Feel
June 23rd Kids Creativity Sesh!
Our second Kids Creativity sesh for 9 to 13 year old kids, is all about abstract painting and mark-making. It’s about breaking out of the urge to paint like a photograph, or realistically. It’s about expressing the feelings we have, or the feeling of a thing. It’s one way to get away from, “I-can’t-draw-horses-that-look-like-horses-so-I’m-giving-up,” to “Oh! I love riding horses (riding my skateboard/climbing trees/swimming …) and I know how that feels! I can paint the way it feels!”
Kids: Float Your Boat
July 7th Kids Creativity Sesh!
Make boats of paper, cardboard, cloth and other cool stuff.
Then learn about making an art installation in a shop window!
Boys and girls alike, will get into this boat-sculpture-making class. When we’re done with our boats, we’ll have a free, follow up morning when the students will learn about making an installation-art project in the front window of the gallery!
Kids: Create Driftwood Critters & Stuff
June 30 Kids Creativity Sesh!
Remember watching clouds and figuring out what shapes you could see with your imaginations? Or making ink blobs and turning them into something “recognizable?” That was always fun, right? We stretch our creative minds outside the box by letting natural or found objects suggest to us what they want to become … fantastical creatures, weird monsters, make-believe machines, whatever our imaginations see when we really LOOK at the found objects.
Learn to make Your Own Paint Brushes
Sunday Afternoon May 24th, from 2 to 5 pm
Learn how to make your own paintbrushes and mark-making tools out of non-traditional and traditional materials. Handmade brushes can help you establish your own “palette” of personal marks and strokes to make your artwork truly your own.
Only 6 spaces in this workshop! Pre-registration is required.
Girls Art Night Image Transfers
March 29th — Girls Art Night is All About Experimenting with Image Transfers
Learn how to transfer old photographs, vintage illustrations or your own drawings onto canvas, wood or cloth.
From 2pm to 5pm, you will make a 12×12 inch canvas mixed-media piece with image transfers, collage materials and paint. While the image transfer is drying, you can plan out your collage and get the other materials ready to apply to your canvas. There will also be an opportunity to transfer an image onto muslin cloth or a flat piece of wood.
Learn to be an Artist’s Model — a workshop
A Workshop for Anyone Interested in Becoming a Part-time Artist’s Model
Held in a professional, contemporary art gallery setting
A Monday Evening in Sumer 2016 (TBA) from 6:30pm to 8pm
Preregistration is required. We will have online tuition signup available a few weeks before the workshop.
Did you know unique opportunities exist to work as an artist’s model? Artists are all around you — in Helena and beyond — looking to draw and paint from a live model. Artists appreciate all body types, shapes, sizes and ages! There is a need for models for clothed, draped or nude life-drawing sessions.
This workshop will introduce you to the art of modeling, and guide you through the process, so you can be comfortable and confident as a professional or occasional artist’s model.
